Check before sending

On the last step of Create Broadcast, a box called Check before sending looks at your number, its quality, your daily limit and your template, and tells you in plain words if anything could stop the broadcast from reaching people. It runs by itself. Most of the time every line is green and you just send.

Where you see it

Open Broadcasts, click New Broadcast and go through the steps. On Schedule & Send, the box appears under the cost. It checks again when you switch between Send Now and Schedule or change the time, and you can click Check again at any moment. Check again asks WhatsApp about your number afresh. If you click it several times in a row, WhatsApp is asked once every 30 seconds.

What is checked

What each result means

If the check itself cannot run, for example because of a network problem, the box says We could not run the check just now. You can still send. The send button stays on.

Your daily limit

WhatsApp limits how many different people your number can start a chat with in 24 hours. People who wrote to you in the last 24 hours do not count, because their chat is already open. The limit starts at 250 and grows as you send good messages. See How many people you can message a day.

This broadcast is bigger than your daily limit

For example, Acme Boutique can start chats with 1,000 people in 24 hours and sets up a Diwali broadcast for 2,500. The box says about 1,500 people will not get it.

You have three choices:

  • Send to fewer people. Go Back to Audience and pick a smaller segment, then send the rest tomorrow.
  • Send anyway. Tick I understand and want to send anyway. The people WhatsApp turns away are not charged.
  • Add a backup channel. With RCS or SMS set under If WhatsApp fails, people who do not get it on WhatsApp get it there instead. That message is charged. See If WhatsApp fails.

We cannot tell you which people will be left out. WhatsApp decides that while the broadcast runs.

This broadcast may pass your daily limit

The broadcast fits your limit on its own, but together with what you sent in the last 24 hours and what you have planned, it may go over.

The count of the last 24 hours is an estimate

WhatsApp does not tell us how much of your limit is used. We count what your own broadcasts sent, so the number is close but not exact. It does not include templates you sent from the inbox, from automations or through the API, and a person who got two broadcasts is counted twice.

Your number has reached its daily limit for now

WhatsApp says your number is at its limit at this moment. Until it is free again, within 24 hours, only people with an open chat will get a broadcast. If you send now, you are asked to tick the box. If you schedule the broadcast for later, you only get a warning, because the limit may be free again by then.

We could not read your daily limit

Open your Dashboard and click Sync with Meta. Then come back and click Check again.

Quality

See Keep your quality rating green for what helps.

Your number cannot send

A red line Your number cannot send right now means WhatsApp has stopped sending from your number or from your WhatsApp account. Under it, WhatsApp says shows WhatsApp's own note about what is wrong and what to do, when there is one. Open your Dashboard for the details, fix what WhatsApp asks for, then click Check again. If you are not sure what to do, contact support.

An amber line WhatsApp has limited your number means the number still sends, but not everything may go out.

An amber line A limit on the business account means WhatsApp reports a limit on your business account, not on the number itself. You can still send, but sending may fail. WhatsApp says under it shows WhatsApp's own note, when there is one.

The template cannot be sent

WhatsApp can pause a template for some hours when too many people block or report it, and disable it if that keeps happening. A paused or disabled template cannot be sent by anyone. When WhatsApp confirms that your template is paused, disabled or not approved, you see a red line This template cannot be sent and the send button stays grey.

  • Paused: wait until the pause is over, or pick another approved template.
  • Disabled, or not approved: pick another template, or create a new one. See Create a WhatsApp template.

If you think the template is fine again, open Templates, find it, and use Refresh status on its menu. Then click Check again.

An amber line We could not confirm this template means the last we heard from WhatsApp was that the template cannot be sent, but we could not check that with WhatsApp just now. You can still send. If WhatsApp refuses the template, the broadcast stops and nobody is charged for messages that did not go out.

When a template is paused while a broadcast is waiting or running

  • A scheduled broadcast is checked again at the moment it starts. If WhatsApp says then that its template cannot be sent, the broadcast is not sent, it shows as Failed with the reason, and the money that was kept aside goes back to your wallet.
  • A running broadcast stops as soon as WhatsApp refuses the template. It shows as Cancelled, and its report says how far it got, for example Stopped after 1,240 of 5,000. The people it did not reach are not charged and are not sent anything on a backup channel.

You also get a notice in the bell. A stopped broadcast does not start again by itself. When the template is approved again, create a new broadcast for the people who were left out. See Send it again to some people.

Good to know

  • The check is there to warn you. It never sends, changes or cancels anything by itself.
  • A broadcast created through the API is refused only for the two red cases: a template WhatsApp says cannot be sent, and a number that cannot send.
  • Checked just now at the top of the box tells you how fresh the details are. If it says something like Checked 14 minutes ago, click Check again.
